About Us

Batson-Cook is a Georgia-based company that has been in business for over 100 years under the same name. The company was founded in 1915 by Mr. W. C. Batson and Mr. Edmund F. Cook in West Point, Georgia, where it began operations in textile and mill village construction. The partnership between the two men conveyed to the corporation, all assets, including stock of goods, four mules and two 2-horse wagons.

Mr. Batson and Mr. Cook were the only original stockholders, but the common stock was soon increased to include two other outstanding business men of the community, who were then also elected to the board of directors on June 14 1917. Mr. Batson was president and director until February 1929, when he sold his interest in the business. Mr. Cook then became chief executive officer and provided great leadership, which contributed immensely to the fiscal success of the business.

Batson-Cook continued to expand operations over the next few decades and became recognized as one of the premier construction organizations in the southeastern United States. In 1957, the company opened its first regional office in Jacksonville, Florida, followed in 1959 by another in Atlanta, Georgia. A third construction office was established in West Point, Georgia, in 1977.

Since then, the Batson-Cook retail store has constantly added to the stock of building materials, making a robust supply store, including hardware, paints, lumber and a wide variety of home improvement products. Batson-Cook pays homage to the business’ heritage by ensuring that every customer experience is personal and by remaining the same, friendly neighborhood hardware store that it has marshaled a strong reputation for.
